Julio: Un relato de sabiduría y luz
De todas las sesiones del mes de Julio, la foto que más me resuena es la de ‘A tale of knowledge and light‘ (Un relato de sabiduría y luz) ya que es una obra que demuestra un poco mi propia filosofía de vida – La idea de seguir la luz que ilumina nuestro camino a través de escuchar la sabiduría interior que todos poseemos, y dejar que el aprendizaje nos ayude a evolucionar como seres humanos.

Out of all the sessions that I did in July the picture that stayed with me is that of ‘A tale of knowledge and light’, as it shows a little bit of my own personal philosophy – The belief that we should follow the light that guides us by listening to our inner wisdom, and become better human beings by learning from life’s lessons.

Hola a tod@s! Sigo con la sesión en familia que hice en Pascuas. Hizo mucho calor ese día y a pesar de quedar por la tarde, la playa estaba llenísima de gente…Pero gracias a la naturalidad de esta familia y un poco de suerte (que siempre va bien!) ni el montón ni la temperatura se notan en las fotos.

Hello all! Here are a few more photos from my Easter family session. It was surprisingly warm that day and although we had arranged to meet in the afternoon, the beach was heaving with people…But thanks to the family’s relaxed nature and a little bit of luck (which always comes in handy!), neither the heat nor the crowds are noticeable in the pictures.

Hoy os dejo una muestra de la sesión que hice en Pascuas con una familia encantadora. Amigos míos durante mucho años, una de sus prioridades de su viaje a España era que yo les hice fotos – Qué nervios! :-) Gracias por confiar en mí y por ser tan buena gente.
I have for you today a selection of photos from a session I did over the Easter break with a very special family. We’ve been friends for a number of years now and one of their priorities during their short holiday in Spain was for me to take pictures of them – No pressure, then! :-) Thank you for putting your trust in me and for being just wonderful people.

Para el mes de Octubre lo tengo un poco difícil…Hice muchas fotos! Pero después de pensármelo y pensármelo de nuevo…Elijo esta como mi mejor foto de de ese mes.
It’s been difficult to choose just one ‘best’ photo from October – I had so many to choose from! After thinking about it and then thinking some more, I finally went for this one.
La segunda foto de tres de la sesión del incendio. Parece el inicio de un cuento, por eso lleva el título ‘Erase una vez’…
Como dice la canción infantil: ‘Si hoy decides ir al bosque, te llevarás una gran sorpresa…’
This is the second of three photos from the forest fire photo session. I’ve called it ‘Once upon a time’ because it reminds me of the beginning of a story…
Just as the children’s song says: ‘If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise..’
El mes pasado hubo un incendio bastante gordo en la zona del parque natural al lado de donde vivo. Unos 444 hectáreas de flora y fauna se convirtieron en ceniza de un día a otro y todavía no se sabe si ha sido intencional o no…O por lo menos no lo han dicho públicamente.
A little over a month ago a large forest fire ripped through the local nature reserve not far from where I live. Some 444 hectares were burnt to the ground in next to no time at all and it’s still not known as whether it was arson or not. Or at least there’s been no official verdict yet.
Como a mí me encanta hacer senderismo y como había recorrido esa zona muchas veces durante estos últimos años, el hecho de subir allí para ver como se había quedado me costó bastante. Por mucho que sepas que todo pasa por algo, que por eso todo es perfecto, que el Universo es sabio y que el fuego en sí es una energía transmutadora muy potente, al ver lo que anteriormente era verde ahora todo de color negro y sentir el aire cargado de ceniza te va a afectar…Y efectivamente eso es lo que me pasó y lloré.
To be honest I was in two minds as whether or not to go a see for myself what had happened, as I had often trekked through that area and knew it like the back of my hand. You see, regardless of knowing that everything happens for a reason, that everything is perfect, that the Universe knows what it’s doing and that fire transforms energy quicker than most things…Seeing what was once green now black and breathing air heavy with ash is going to affect you. Me, well, I cried.
Parecía una escena de una película de ‘Mad Max’, pero lo curioso es que a pesar de las lágrimas empecé a ‘ver’ fotos y mi voz creativa empezó a hablarme de ‘Perséfone en el reino de Hades’ y de ‘donde los ángeles teman pisar’. De ahí que decidí convertir la destrucción que me rodeaba en algo creativo…Y volví a la ‘zona cero’ tres días después acompañada de una amiga, mi cámara, un vestido blanco del rastro y mi mascara dorada.
La escena / The scene
It was like a scene out of ‘Mad Max’ yet the strangest thing was that in spite of what I was feeling, I kept ‘seeing’ photos and the phrases ‘Persephone in the underworld’ and ‘where angels fear to tread ‘ floated into my head. So inspired was I that I decided to turn destruction into creation and go back to ground zero three days later armed with my camera, a white dress I’d picked up at a car boot, my gold mask and a friend.
Andar descalza por la ceniza es una sensación muy extraña / Walking barefoot through ash is very strange
Ya que no quedaba vegetación se veía todo lo que antes estaba escondido, como por ejemplo muchas ruinas. Nos acercamos a una de ellas, preparé la cámara y me vestí. Tengo que deciros que andar descalza por la ceniza es una sensación muy extraña y ¡había que ir con mucho cuidado! He de decir aquí también que sin la ayuda de mi amiga Evaldes (www.evaenpruebas.com) – mi disparador humano – todo me hubiera costado mucho más, así que ¡gracias amiga!
Ceniza por todas partes / The ash got everywhere
Due to the lack of vegetation, the area now gave up its secrets and many previously hidden ruins were visible. We set up shop near once of them and prepared the scene. I have to admit that walking barefoot through ash is very strange and you had to be extremely careful! Also, I must say that if it hadn’t been for my friend, Evaldes (www.evaenpruebas.com) – my human shutter release – the whole session would have taken much longer, so a big thank you!
En total tardamos una hora y como el día nos salió perfecto – nublado – no me preocupé demasiado por la luz. Traté de recrear las imágenes que veía en mi cabeza y sacarlas que me iban surgiendo a lo largo de la sesión.
Había que ir con cuidado / You had to be careful
Overall the session took us about an hour and as it was a perfectly cloudy morning, I didn’t bother using any extra lighting equipment. I just concentrated on recreating the imagines I could see in my head and also attempt those which occurred mid-session.
Como cada semilla creativa suele evolucionar y crecer sobre la marcha, al final he acabado con tres fotografías/ideas, de las cuales la primera es la que he puesto primero aquí. Las otras dos las subiré en breve. ¡Estaos atentos!

As most ideas evolve during the creative process, in the end I’ve finished up with three pictures, the first of which is the first one I’ve posted here. The remaining two I will post soon. Watch this space!
