When I first came across the concept of Belly Casts, a 3-dimensional plaster sculpture of a woman’s pregnant belly/body, I was inspired to put together a special package to offer alongside my current maternity photo session options. Those of you who have already met me know that I adore helping all my lovely mamas-to-be celebrate and honour their pregnancy, their body and the passage into motherhood. So I’m sure that you can just image my excitement to finally be able to tell you all about my new belly cast sessions today!

Pregnancy is a very special yet fleeting time in a woman’s life. Belly casting is the art of capturing a moment in time. A belly cast is a work of art capturing the bond between you and your unborn baby. It is also a relaxing and soothing time which can help solidify the connection between you and your baby before birth as you view the space you have made for your child.

The cast can then be used as a prop in your newborn session to show off your beautiful baby. It’s amazing to see how your tiny baby would have fit in your belly, in fact, it seems almost unbelievable when they arrive that they could have ever squeezed in there. These sessions are so special and unique to you and I love seeing the shapes and sizes of all the different bumps.

Casts can also be decorated in infinite ways or left in its natural state, and many women choose to have it customised to match their homes or baby’s nursery decor so that it can be hung on a wall and displayed for years to come.

When is the best time to do a belly cast?

Belly casts are often made between 34-38 weeks of pregnancy. This is a good time to really capture the fullest shape of your pregnancy.

Is belly casting safe?

Absolutely! It is constructed of high quality, hospital grade, non-toxic plaster casting strips that are safe for mother and baby.

Where does the session take place?

Belly cast sessions can take place at my quiet, private studio space, but arrangements can be made for a cast to be done in the comfort of your home. The session takes about an hour/an hour and a half.

What’s included in the session?

A normal session would entail doing a cast of both belly and breasts and also includes 3 complimentary photos of your session experience. I also accept commissions to further decorate your belly cast with its own unique look. The options are endless!

* As with all my sessions I recommend you book well in advance to ensure availability of both a suitable session time and the materials needed.
