Nocturna 6

Por fin estoy al día con el tema del reto de elegir mi mejor foto de cada mes. De todas las que hice en agosto, elijo ésta de la quedada ‘fotografía nocturna 2’. El árbol aquí me trae recuerdos a la película ‘Avatar’, sobre todo con la luz amarilla emanando desde su centro.

I am finally up-to-date with my self-inflicted challenge of choosing the best image I take from each month. Out of all of the photos that I took in August, I choose this one from ‘night photography 2’. The tree reminds me of the one from the film ‘Avatar’, especially with the yellow light glowing from it’s centre.

Junio/June

He fallado…En Junio apenas hice fotos y de las pocas que hice, no hay ninguna que puedo subir aquí. Entonces, voy a hacer trampa y subo una del último fin de semana de Mayo… ¡Casi Junio! Es del interior de una iglesia. ¡Espero que el siguiente mes sea más productiva!

I’ve been bad! I hardly took any pictures in June and of the few that I did taken, none of them I can upload to this blog – So I’m going to cheat a little and upload one from the last weekend in May…Almost June! It’s of the interior of a church. Let’s hope next month is more promising!

Pilares de Piedras – Pillars of Pebbles

Aquellos de vosotros que siguen este blog saben que el domingo pasado me fui a hacer fotos del amanecer y después me quedé en la playa un ratito. Pues lo que vengo a contaros es que durante ese ‘ratito’ se me presentó otro momento creativo en forma de ver las torres de piedras creadas por Manu, un hombre que disfrutaba de una mañana en la playa con su familia de manera distinta.

Según Manu, él no es artista, sin embargo pasó todo su tiempo montando pilares de piedras dentro y fuera del agua. Buscó cada roca conscientemente, mirando su forma, peso y color – Y lo hacía por gusto. Me comentó que si no fueran esculturas de piedras, ¡haría castillos de arena!

Me encanto verle trabajar y ver como invitaba a los más jóvenes de su familiar participar en la actividad. Había muchas personas en la playa esa mañana pero solamente unas pocas le prestaron atención y menos gente aún le habló. Aquellos éramos los afortunados…

Quiero decirle a Manu gracias y espero que siga siendo creativo, siempre.

¿Veis como nunca hay que dejar tu cámara en casa o, en mi caso, en el coche? Nunca sabes lo que la vida te va a regalar…

Those of you who follow this blog will know that last Sunday I got up early to take photos of the sunrise at the beach and then I decided to spend the morning there. Well, what I would like to share with you today is the fact that during the course of that morning, I was presented with another creative moment. This time it was in the form of stone towers which had been built by Manu, a man who was at the beach with his family.

Manu told me that he was not an artist, yet he spent all morning creating pillars of pebbles both in and out of the water. He would look for each rock carefully, paying attention to its size, weight and colour – And all for enjoyment! He stated that if he wasn’t building stone sculptures, he would be creating sand castles!

It was wonderful to watch him work and see how he encouraged the younger members of his family to join in. There were a lot of people at the beach that morning but only a few actually stopped, taking a few moments to look and talk to him. We were the lucky ones in my book.

To Manu I say thank you and I hope you continue creating!

It’s A New Day

Levantarse a las 5:00h de la mañana un domingo para ir a hacer fotos, ¿estás loca?

Pues, sí.

Siempre estamos rodeados de momentos creativos…A todas horas. Sin embargo, a veces hay que madrugar para encontrar ese instante perfecto y hoy hay tocado precisamente eso.

Nos hemos levantado temprano (dos amigas y yo), hemos hecho fotos chulas, nos han picado los mosquitos, nos hemos desayunado…y para terminar la sesión me he ido a darme un baño en el mar. ¡El agua estaba buenísima!

A veces es una pena quedarse en la cama… Hay todo un mundo por descubrir.

Y tú, ¿qué has hecho hoy?

Get up at 5am on a Sunday just to take photos? Are you crazy?

The answer is, yes.

We are always surrounded by potential creative moments…24/7. However sometimes, to get that perfect one you have got to lose some sleep and that is exactly what was called for today.

So, we were up early (two friends and I), we took some great pictures, we got eaten alive by mosquitos, we had breakfast…And then to round off the morning I went for a refreshing dip in the sea. The water was delicious!

Sometimes it is such a shame to stay in bed…There is a whole world out there just waiting to be discovered.

Uno de mis propósitos para este año es el reto de elegir mi mejor foto de cada mes y subirlas por aquí. Así al terminar el año tendré 12 fotos bonitas…Pero una cosa es la teoría y otra la práctica.

¿Y si hago muchas en un mes?, me pregunto. ¿Cómo elijo la mejor? Además, muchas veces hago fotos para personas que no quieren salir en Internet. ¡Normal!

Pero veo que más complicada aún de contestar es la pregunta de ‘¿y si hago pocas?’

De ahí que empezamos con la mejor foto del mes de Enero y la de Febrero…

Febrero: Una de mis preferidas de una sesión de fotos que hice.

One of my resolutions for this year was the challenge of choosing my best image from each month. That way I’d have 12 great photos at the end of the year. Or at least that’s the theory, anyway.

So, what if I take a glut of pictures in one month? How would I choose? Not to mention the fact that many people I take picture for don’t always let me display them on here.

But what about if I take very few?!

Let’s get the ball rolling by starting off with January and February and we’ll see how it goes…

Terminamos las salidas nocturnas, por el momento, con una última sesión de pintar con luz. Esta vez fuimos el grupito y yo (¡cada vez somos más!) a una casa abandonada rodeada de naranjos y palmeras. Aunque apenas había luna, por desgracia, había muchísima contaminación de luz urbana que nos tenía preocupados. Nos resultó muy difícil conseguir lo que queríamos. ¡Que manera de sufrir por “el arte”!

Y, ¡menos mal que existe el Photoshop!

Here is the last night session of light painting for the moment. This time the ever-growing group and I went to an abandoned house, which was surrounded by orange trees and palms. Although there was very little moon, there was an amazing amount of urban light pollution that made it difficult to get the images that we wanted. Oh, how we suffer in the name of art!

And long live Photoshop!

Malta, Gozo + Comino

Simboli, tempji u l-bahar…

Me ha resultado muy difícil elegir las diez mejores fotos de mi viaje a las islas mediterráneas de Malta, Gozo y Comino. ¡Hice tantas! Disfruté de una semana maravillosa viajando entre ellas, con solamente mi cámara como compañía…Y me lo pase en grande.

Son para mí uno de los lugares más hermosos en el mundo. Un viaje que recomiendo para todos.

I have found it really difficult to choose just the top ten photos from my trip to the Mediterranean islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino. I took so many! I spent a wonderful week hopping between them with just my camera as company…And I had an amazing time.

They are, for me, one of the most beautiful places in the world and I would recommend them to anyone who asked.
